Installing Water/Wet Underfloor Heating System on Concrete floors

Before installing the UFH System on the concrete floor, all that encapsulates the house must first be insulated, this is because, being that the systems use a lower temperature than radiators, insulating the house will keep the heat within the property without any loss. Afterwards, installing the insulation boards will be next. The boards’ thickness varies so you must know what type of thickness you desire. The thickness ranges from 22m2 to 150m2.

However, please note that thicker it is, the more height is reduced from the room but the more warmth will be felt. Installing the pipes on the insulation boards come after the insulation process, paying attention to the pipes being close together so as to avoid having any cold spots. Finally, some screed of about 65m2(cement and sand) should be laid on the pipes to prevent the pipes from falling apart when a heavy furniture is placed on it.

Installation of Electric mats on concrete floors

Just like the water system installation, electric mats also require insulation. For electric mats, you need to prime the boards to ensure that the heating mats will lay well on it. Also, it is essential to repair any loose board(s). You should plan how you intend laying the mat and remember to leave out the tail-end of the cable close to the power source. Ensure that at least 50m2 length of wire is away from the walls and furniture.

Cables should be laid parallel to each other without overlapping. The final step is to level the mat or cables with a covering which helps to prevent damage to the wires.
